Pakistan diplomat calls for joint NATO-Pakistan border force

Auckland News.Net
Friday 10th October, 2008

Pakistan's permanent representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Hussain Haroon, has suggested the formation of a joint border force of Pakistani and NATO forces to increase co-ordination to curb terrorist activities along the Pak-Afghan border.

He has also suggested the force should come under the command of Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Kiyani.

Mr Haroon said he believed such a force would help end the misunderstanding and tension between the NATO and Pakistani forces, improve co-ordination between the two forces on action against terrorists and save the lives of many innocent people in the Tribal Areas of the country.

Haroon, who is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari will discuss matters pertaining to Pakistan's role in the war on terrorism.

Coordination like this is the key to vicotry. Nato and Pakistan should have been working in concert this entire time.

Both should act as an anvil to crush the enemies between. Hopefully the confict can be brought to an end much sooner and the job of mopping up resistance and go foward more efficiently with less casualties on the sides of Nato and Pakistan.

This is a positive step to save Pakistan

Where people work together for common good, then there will be peace, prosperity and Joy.. God our father wants his children to live as a family as brother and sisters. Yes brothers and sisters argue, but we are still brother and sister at the end of the day and our father is most happy when we are friends. Amen

I would hesitate to say that in summary this will solve the border problem. It will not, in fact it will only cause the resistance to reestablish and control that border better than ever.

I hate to be the source of reluctance but this is not a NATO and Pakistan problem. This is a problem that exists within the elements of society now. Displacement was the original hoist in the problem. Now it seems that they will once again in the face of the people try to force a relationship with NATO on the people of Pakistan. Pakistan is not the place for it. Their military is completely capable.

This sounds like Wendy the diplomat all over. Will they just protest this time or act in overthrowing the government behind your backs.

All of the thinking that goes on never accomplishes much it seems to only worsen.

The internal troubles in the countries in the Middle East and Asia are caused by religious extremists. This problem has no military solution. You capture and kill a high ranking leader, another one with a more extreme views will emerge continue the insurrection.

You have to change their thinking. Go to the source, the religious schools where they get their extreme views. Change their views of the west by giving them access to the western news, etc.

Give them free radios, tvs, DVD players, CDs about life in the west, so they could listen and watch western media.Or give them something to do. Maybe China could build factories there so the would-be-terrorists can have jobs instead.

Pashtun.

NATO forces should forge unity with the people of N.W.F.P through their
elders who want to fight against Talibans (ISI). Pakistani Military (Talibans)
is killing the elders of Tribal leaders and even the Politicians in N.W.F.P.
Don`t be mislead by the present ISI chief and the Military Chief of Pakistan
Mr. Parvaiz Kiyani because they are fighting a proxy war to install Talibans
in Islamabad and then expell NATO forces from Afghanistan with their
vision to establish “World Islami Khilafat”.

NATO/ISAF and the International community must save the lives of Pakistanis
who are being targeted by Pakistani Military through their Talibans. Talibans
are being helped by Pakistani Military but the innocent Pashtuns are being
targeted and displaced. It`s time to forge alliance with Pashtuns, Pashtun
elders and tribal chiefs to cope with Pakistani Military and their Talibans.
