BEIJING, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil registered 1,428 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the fourth highest number of daily fatalities since the start of the pandemic, raising its nationwide death toll to 249,957, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

The ministry also said tests detected 66,588 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total COVID-19 caseload to 10,324,463.

Wednesday also marked the country's 35th day in a row with more than 1,000 deaths.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 396 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 88,516.

The daily caseload was down from 440 in the previous day, but it hovered above 100 since Nov. 8 owing to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported seven new imported COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 4,968.

Of the new imported cases, three were reported in Shanghai, and one each were reported in Tianjin, Shandong, Guangdong and Sichuan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report Thursday.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported three cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation on Thursday, with no new cases linked to the Auckland cluster this month.

All 11 cases associated with the Auckland cluster remain in the Auckland quarantine facility, said a health ministry statement.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand is 65, and the total number of confirmed cases is 2,012, it said.
