Roundup: China's women advance to play-in round of FIBA 3x3 World Cup

WARSAW, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Germany's men's and women's teams both went unbeaten to top their pools and book direct berths in the quarterfinals as group play in Pools A and C of the 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Cup concluded here on Wednesday.

China's men were drawn into Pool C with the Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand and Japan. They opened with a 22-14 win over Japan on Monday, but then lost three straight to the Netherlands, New Zealand and Germany to finish 1-3 and exit the tournament.

China's women were also in Pool C. After an opening loss to Germany on Monday, they bounced back with a 21-12 victory over Italy later the same day, then beat the Philippines 20-12 on Wednesday. A narrow defeat to Latvia left them second in the pool, earning a place in Friday's play-in round.

Li Wenxia starred for China, scoring 25 points across four group games. Her 6.3 points per game rank second among all women's players.

Group play in Pools B and D continues on Thursday. The 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Cup runs in Warsaw from June 1 to 7, featuring 40 men's and women's teams.

At last year's World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, China's men topped their pool and reached the quarterfinals for the first time in team history.
